Purpose: To evaluate clinically acceptable long term storage compression rate of JPEG200 of digital mammogram image.
Materials and Methods: 13 mammogram were selected, which had fine pathologic condition. All images were compressed with rate of 1:5, 1:10, 1:20, 1:40, 1:80, 1:160, 1:320, 1:640by JPEG2000 compression protocol. All of thepaired images werescoring by a radiologist (breast imaging subspecialist)
Results: In groups of 1:5, 1:10, 1:20, 1:40, 1:80, any image had not score 3 or less in two trials. However in groupof 1:160, the images had score 3 in 34.6%, in group of 1:320, the images had score 2 in 3.8%, score 3 in 65.4%. All image in group of 1:640 had score 3 or less.
Conclusion: 1:80 of JPEG 2000 lossy compression images might be acceptable clinically in long term storage of PACS.
